The most valuable advice we give is usually to spend less

· 6 min read · E&M Partners

Every quarter a client asks us to increase media spend. Perhaps once a year we agree without conditions. That ratio is not caution — it is arithmetic.

Spend follows capacity, not ambition

Most acquisition problems we are shown are actually fulfilment problems. A business that cannot answer enquiries within a day does not have a lead-generation gap; it has a response gap. Adding budget to that system converts money into complaints.

  • Can the team absorb double the enquiry volume next month?
  • Does the second-best channel still clear contribution margin at scale?
  • Is the current return a function of the market, or of one campaign?
If we cannot make the commercial case on paper, we do not make it in a meeting.

When the answers hold, we scale hard and without hesitation. When they do not, we say so in writing, and we say it before the invoice.

One considered note a month on growth decisions, measurement and AI in marketing. No campaign announcements.
